Day Number Two of 2006
January 02, 2006 | 9:53 A.M.
Well I have to leave for work in 20 minutes. Originally I was scheduled off today, tomorrow and Wednesay but the manager of operations came in on Friday when the schedules were posted and added a shift for me today. But for a few reasons I don't mind so much:
1) I start at 11am and the doors do not open until noon and I have nothing to prepare so I get to sit around for an hour on the clock and read my new book(s) I'd gotten for Christmas and get paid for it.
2) I am an usher today which means that I clean theaters. Well my theater has only two screens and we're showing the same long movie on both screens. I do not have to clean up for the first set. I clean the movies that let out at 2:38pm and 3:23pm which shouldn't be that crowded. And then I stand around for an hour until 5pm when I get to leave.
3) Aside from checking the bathrooms and straightening them up roughly once per hour, I won't be doing all that much.
Apparently our paychecks that we receive on Thursday will include our raises! Everyone gets their raises in January. The house manager (the head manager at each theater) submits a monetary amount that they believe each worker has earned to the corporation. This will be based on how helpful you have been and such. The corporate offices will look at several things which I will list below to decide how close to the manager's submitted amount will be allowed. Here are some things that they take into consideration and how I've scored on them since I started there:
1) Attendance - I've called out twice. Once was because Jenn was rushed to the ER and was told that she would most likely need surgery before the end of the day. And I wasn't scheduled this shift. A friend of mine there was horrible ill for two weeks and I had taken his shift for that day.
2) Money shortages on registers - I've been over twice...by 25 cents and 75 cents. I've never been short.
3) Helping out - I've taken as many extra shifts as I could to help out.
4) Number of hours worked - They like those that work all the hours that they can and especially in the past couple weeks I've worked a ton of hours.
5) Customer praise - This can be in the form of customers writing or calling in praise of you personally or even if the manager notices that customers are happy after dealing with you
There are other things but these are most important. I am sure that Shawn put me in for a fairly decent raise which would be very, very helpful. And on Thursday we'll see what I earned!
I am still off tomorrow and Wednesday. We will work on shifting things around the apartment and cleaning. We will optimize our space and unclutter our room. We will go to a used furniture store a few blocks away and see if they have a small couch (loveseat), bookshelves and some other things we'd like/need. If we see anything, I'll ask them to hold them for us until this weekend after I get my paycheck and then I can move them here.
Well that's about it as I have to leave for work. But that's 2 entries in 2 days of 2006 so far. Hurrah!
